Chocolate Fudge Balls – Borrowed Recipe

This past weekend was a major Indian festival – Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights. We Indians light a lot of lamps and firecrackers, and eat a lot of sweets (oh wait, we do the sweets part no matter what the festival). I usually make a small customary sweet and skip on the rest, this time the minions wanted to make something special and I found this recipe for “Chocolate Fudge Balls” that looked super simple.
(Yes, I know this is a “health” blog and these are decadent!!)

The recipe is from a site called Veggie Belly, a wonderful site for vegetarian (sometimes Indian inspired) food. She’s awesome at food photography too!

All I needed was (refer to the original recipe for variations and tips) –

  • one 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup bitter sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour (optional)
  • 1/4th cup slivered almonds (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Put all the ingredients in a pan.

Over a low flame, stir occasionally until all the ingredients melt and mix thoroughly. Took about 5 minutes.

Allow to cool and make into little balls. Let the balls sit for a couple of hours and enjoy the yummiest “chocolate fudge”!!

Even though this is not my original recipe, I HAD to share it. I’ve been having a bad run with my cooking, messing up every.single.thing. When this turned out exactly as shown on Veggie Belly and oh-so-yummy, I was ecstatic! And inspired to try a few more recipes and see if I can regain my cooking hand.
