Run for Mind, Body and Soul

Run for Mind, Body and Soul

Sometimes there are runs which are exactly what your mind and body need; the fact that they are on your training schedule is an unexpected bonus! My trail run at Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield park was like that – a run for mind, body and soul. Even though I’ve walked up this mountain many times (And thought that the runners I’d see were absolutely batsh!t crazy! Who’d want to run on a mountain!!), I had never run on the trails around until…

Snowpocalypse Atlanta 2014

Snowpocalypse Atlanta 2014

Regularly scheduled writings about running & fitness (or triathlon) is interrupted to write about Snowpocalypse Atlanta 2014. Snowmageddon. Snowjam. Whatever you want to call it. Or a shake of the head and sniggering laugh, if you are from the North of the US of A (or Europe or other naturally cold regions). We have had so many below freezing days in HOTlanta this winter that it became a common joke to say that if the temps were this cold, it…

When Race Plans Fall Aside

When Race Plans Fall Aside

I was going to do the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run Walk 5k as my Tempo run for the week. But race plans fell aside and instead ended up having a lot of fun run-walking with Jennifer and Shelly. In a sea of 16,000+ people, we managed to find some other friends for some picture time! It was a non-timed event, an annual event for corporate wellness. Very well organized for that huge crowd, plenty of food, 2-3 water stops, medics nearby, on…

Georgia Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

Georgia Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

Hills , hills and more hills. A largely pretty course taking me through areas I had never been! More hills. The “biggest” hills (to me) was the one coming out of Piedmont Park, and the one(s) passing through Georgia Tech. The most deceptive hill is the one after Georgia Tech onto Marietta St (the last mile). I couldn’t see the hill, but my legs could feel it. Drove down to the start (MARTA doesn’t run that early on weekends anymore)….

13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

Course starts and end at Oglethorpe University (great finish party). The first 2-3 miles (for my speed) were in the dark. The little speed bumps on dark roads were tripping obstacles. Small but fun race with no corrals.  The running in the dark in the beginning may have partly contributed to me going out a tad too quickly. The last bit of 2 miles or so on Peachtree St felt like huge long hills. UPHILL FINISH!! Seriously, who does that…

13.1 Atlanta

13.1 Atlanta

Whew! So glad to be done with this!! And happy the way it ended, although I am sad about the time.   The race was to start at 7am, I got there at 5.40am to find a parking spot nearby. Cold and slightly windy morning that promised to turn out to be a great day. I met a very nice girl at the start who mentors the Fleet Feet Alpharetta running group. She helped calm my nerves so much….
