13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

13.1 Atlanta Half Marathon – Course and Elevation

Course starts and end at Oglethorpe University (great finish party). The first 2-3 miles (for my speed) were in the dark. The little speed bumps on dark roads were tripping obstacles. Small but fun race with no corrals.  The running in the dark in the beginning may have partly contributed to me going out a tad too quickly. The last bit of 2 miles or so on Peachtree St felt like huge long hills. UPHILL FINISH!! Seriously, who does that…

13.1 Atlanta

13.1 Atlanta

Whew! So glad to be done with this!! And happy the way it ended, although I am sad about the time.   The race was to start at 7am, I got there at 5.40am to find a parking spot nearby. Cold and slightly windy morning that promised to turn out to be a great day. I met a very nice girl at the start who mentors the Fleet Feet Alpharetta running group. ING Half Marathon

My First Half Marathon – and I’m hooked!     After a night of tossing and turning, the alarm clock woke me up at 4.30am. Tomorrow, March 21

… will be my first half marathon.I’m super excited and super nervous. In spite of being sick for the past 3-4 weeks and not having too many miles after my big 10mile run on Feb 21st, I have trained hard for this. Starting from not being able to run half a mile and wimping out at hills to being able to run for over 2 hours. Ideally, I would like to finish around 2:45. But realistically, I will be happy…

My First Run

My First Run

Today, I ran on the roads outside my house. Ran for 3 miles.  The weather was just perfect. The first 10-15 minutes was uncomfortable. The middle 10-15 was tolerable. The last 20 minutes definitely tried to kill me and I had to walk up almost every mountain I encountered. I wanted to give it up and call Guru to pick me up instead, but the baby was sleeping and I didn’t want him to have to bring her out. And so I…

Why Why Why

Why Why Why

After the debacle over my B’day and anniversary, a husband constantly telling me that running was the miraculous cure for my weight-loss plateau and post-partum depression issues, and blown away by a friend who had finished a half marathon; in a fit – of enthusiasm or temper, or both, I have decided that I am going to do a half marathon. But … I hate running. I am not a runner. Heck, I’m not even a walker. Dragging myself to the gym…
