My body protests
I woke up the day of the long run with a sore throat.
I struggled a bit during the run, physically and a little mentally.
Sunday, full blown head cold and body ache. Had to drag myself to a birthday party and I ended up with a headache with still half the day to go.
My body is creaking and protesting the upped mileage. It was ok until 12 miles. I’d done a lot of 10-12 miles before, but this time was adding in intervals and tempo runs and the brutality of running in peak summer’s heat and humidity is different than winter runs.
I also realized that I haven’t had a fall back week in over 7 weeks !! Due to a slight miscalculation in training plans of Chicago Vs. Savannah, we upped mileage from 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. This week is a fall back week, but at 14 miles, I’m not sure how much of a fallback it actually is.
I’m going to try to take the other runs (other than the intervals) a bit easy. Perhaps substitute the tempo run for an easy run. And if it doesn’t make that big a difference, stay at 13 miles instead of 14 over the long run.
My body needs a bit of TLC if its to stay in top shape for 2 more months.
